You may know Laura as one of the most loving, kind, and generous women you have ever had the pleasure to meet. But did you also know that she is one of the toughest fighters around? This incredible woman retired from teaching eighth grade math at McKinleyville Middle School for 19 years, the year following her diagnosis of stage 4 pancreatic cancer. But believe it or not, Laura Grant, due in large part to her ceaseless optimism and faith in the human spirit, has recently celebrated surviving two years with this disease. We are celebrating because Laura has beaten the odds and become one of the 1% who has survived this cancer for more than two years after diagnosis. And Laura is not only surviving, she is living an active and relatively comfortable daily life, having attended her daughter Lily's wedding last summer, and looking forward to participating in her son Turner's wedding in 2014.
Please come celebrate Laura and support her fight against pancreatic cancer with a new haircut on Monday, August 19 from 10 until 6 at Panache, in the Hotel Arcata. Appointments can be made by calling Rachel at 825-7729, and walk-ins are welcome as well. Every dollar will be donated to the costs of Laura's progressive treatments, which she is currently pursuing at the Block Center in Skokie, Illinois, in her spirit and drive to conquer this disease. Laura will be there for hugs, smiles and visits. We hope to see you there!
