I'm one who took my recyclables to Hambro in CC when I had other business up there over the past year and more since covid started. This article paints a picture of a company that has its act together - I can confirm it from my perspective. Super efficient, clear communication, no-nonsense process. I was totally impressed by Hambro, and now this article also shows that the owners and administrators of the company are largely responding to community needs - lack of service in Humboldt and over-crowded service in CC. I think they'll be very well received, and it sounds like they deserve that. Yay Hambro!
Another gem, Rod.
Bravo! And thank you.
I've known Rod and his love of horse racing for years, but we've never talked about shavings. Intuition got me through that one in a millisecond...
Another great piece, Rod - brief but super informative and thorough for a glance at what's up with the fair and the races.
Laws and regulations haven't curbed the removal of LWD in most places, and continuing to lose our anadromous fish populations hasn't moved the public to change things meaningfully either. We likely have more folks with traditions of taking a few spawners - or wanting to - than we have folks who base their spirituality on the health of the ecosystem around us - and, ironically and tragically, we likely have a majority of folks who don't even need salmon and other species on their radar. How do we change? The subculture of fish-heads isn't getting it done - even though what I have seen is that basically everyone embraces the ideas of healthy streams and robust fish populations. How do we achieve a Salmon Culture where the people hold the fish and their habitats as sacred? If we don't figure it out, we won't have the option much longer.
Thanks for this piece.
Re: “Samoa Sidestep”
Thanks for sharing a part of Humboldt that I'm not as familiar with as I'd like to be. Hopefully your trail has parking that's more secure than other nearby locations have been lately.
