Re: “Attorneys: Fortuna Mom Standing by to Surrender in Fatal Hit and Run Case

Well, she should make a statement then. Even through a lawyer. But make a damn statement.

Re: “Power and Control

So let me get this straight; An article exposes the entire family with innuendo and gossip, but it's all the perpetrators fault? As someone who has had my kids exposed to local gossip through no fault of their own, I will have to say that it does damage and ANYONE who perpetuates this kind of whispering is responsible.
You're telling me this article couldn't have been written WITHOUT bringing his children into it? I call bull. Maybe Kevin Harrelson is a wife beating asshole. But can YOUR family withstand this kind of scrutiny? And justifying the repetition of gossip by pointing at the asshole who is being gossiped about is justifying "collateral damage". It's all okay to talk about the kids because, after all, their Dad is a piece of shit. Right. I see.
Emergency room reports? Yes.
Allegations made to police? Yes.
"Someone said"? No.
Rather than see this as a horrible tragedy that has destroyed a family and damaged a community, by all means let's call him a cretin and expose his kids to public discussion.
That makes total sense to me.
Not.

Re: “Power and Control

Actually my dispute is mostly with the stating events that he wasn't convicted of doing. Only accused. Frankly my thoughts are with his kids. This article isn't just exposing him is it? It drags everyone out. The facts are bad enough. The purpose of this article seems to aimed at the Rio Dell police but uses harrelson's family as fodder. It's not people like me who keep families from reporting. There may be corruption and rot but an investigative journalist would root out facts. Instead, a family has a bright, harsh light focused on them. Several of the allegations stayed were 'reports" not proven or verified. That's what I mean by gossip. Including rumors that he abused his children brings them into an arena they shouldn't be in. I completely agree that an officer has a higher standard and I agree with the author that most families just want help for their clearly sick loved one. I said the whole story isn't here. I said this mixed fact and gossip. I still say it. Call it offensive but this brings more than just Harrelson's into the vicious limelight- a fact no one else seems bothered by.

Re: “Power and Control

This all seems like a gossip column rather than investigative reporting. Repeating unofficial allegations of child abuse and other speculative comments seems better suited said in whispers as much of this has.
Don't get me wrong. All of it may be true, but this kind of public repetition of rumor is the very reason victims don't speak out and abusers don't seek help. I am acquainted with the family and found this lengthy mix of fact and gossip painful. I'm not sure you have the whole story...nor am I sure you sought it.
