Carroll, my point is simply that I fail to see scapegoating in this case. You state that discipline is arbitrary, and also site the black/white discrepancy in arrest rates, however in neither case do I read either class or race being stated as THE problem. Rather, the problem is as you state, individuals within the system. It's not scapegoating to claim race is a factor in arrest rates when, as with discipline among children of different affluence, the poor and the black are being discriminated against. Seems like your feathers are more ruffled over what you might believe to be insulting toward poor students, whereas I read it from the other perspective of favoritism...reverse-scapegoating? We agree overall, regardless.
