I have always believed poverty to be the root cause of most if not all our social ills, but the graph at the beginning of this article has led me to question that belief.
In 1985, we had several times more people employed in the timber industry, there was no internet to compete with retail outlets, marijuana prices were high and meth use was relatively low. One would think times were good in 1985 and yet property crime was significantly higher than it is today!
