Hilarious!
Very nice article. Being new to Loleta (eleven years) I believe the writer captured many facets of Loleta as well as a few of the characters. It really does take all kinds to make a village. Nonetheless, the bakery and meat market situation is unfortunate and while the VDZ's have every right to expand, evict, intimidate and generally discomfit anyone who gets in their way, it does not make for happiness all the way around. When one hears or actually witnesses some of the behavior that Pixie and others have come to expect from either of the bakery owners, it is hard not to be resentful. The bakery has a good product, however, it would be better if Mrs. VDZ occupied herself in the back doing something other than "running the show" out front. More than a few have commented on her gushing exhilaration versus her condescending attitude. A friend from outside the area commented, "it was really good, but that lady is all stress and she takes away the enjoyment". Ex- employees (and there are many) tell of similar feelings. It will be good when Pixie moves, she has been the "whipping post" so to speak for a while now. There are many untruths the VDZ's have broadcasted about a good woman and her brother. The VDZ's would do well to work towards garnering the love, respect and support the community has for the meat market. However I fear it may be too late.
