Ballet most definitely is NOT mean. It's disciplined; it's artistic; it's intense. But it's not MEAN. You can have discipline, artistry and intensity without being mean. It's demonstrated every day in professional ballet schools all around the world and right here in Humboldt County. In some schools, what might be interpreted as "meanness" is an attempt to indicate their seriousness, knowledge, and professionalism, i.e., "we're the REAL thing," in an art. But that attitude isn't necessary. You can apply discipline and intensity right along with joy and kindness. And all without being perceived as "mean." We're lucky we've got choices.
Congratulations to all of you! It's not often we hear of people actually "planning ahead" for the future of their endeavor and not just themselves. That shows your dedication to the NCJ and to the community. We appreciate it! I've loved the Journal for the entire 7-1/2 years I've lived here - even BEFORE I knew Carolyn (who's daughter is my "other daughter") worked there, much less that she was an owner! Keep up the good work!
