I didn't think I'd live long enough to see Joel Mielke compared to Karl Rove. I think Joel is good at diagramming life's many little perplexities. That's all.
There are few better people on this planet than Chuck DeWitt.
Dave Bitts did a phenomenal job speaking to the Commission. A few months ago when the Commission briefly flirted with tying Humboldt with the inland counties, Dave came to a Commission meeting and delivered an amazing, very witty presentation on why that was a very bad idea. The Commission loved it - and Dave. Several others testified to the same theme - keep the coastal counties together. Almost immediately Humboldt was back in the mix with the rest of the North Coast and the Commission never looked at an East-West alignment again. Good work Mr. Bitts.
The Pacific Legal Foundation owes its existence to big tobacco (Phillip Morris) and despite what the PLF tells you their attorneys lose in court against the Coastal Commission far more often than they win.
Good job on this, Ryan. You explained the issue well.
I am sad to see Jennifer leave the Journal. "Savage Money" was one of those must-reads. She had her pen on the pulse of so many Humboldt residents who survive on the North Coast by scraping out a living, often working two or three jobs and freelance gig here and there. Good luck Jen!
This is exciting. Tom Abate and Hank will team up to put the Journal on the cutting edge. Great times for Humboldt newsies.
