I think Ryan Burns has a crush on Helen L'Annunziata. This story seems like it was pushed by the grant writing machine, and Ryan's not really interested ina real story. It's all Helen's lingo and language (he did another story in Feb 2011 also rewriting her propaganda). She has stated in other writings she's "in favor of developing a social change movement through grass roots grant making on the residential level." Ryan is an accomplice to her grant writing schemes. Notice half of the grant is going toward staff salary---or in other words, keeping Helen employed.
It's an editorial...an opinion piece...probably ghost written by Salzman...it was not written by a news reporter so please don't present it as such. Geesh.
First of all, the state didn't abscond with the money, that headline is misleading. They took back when Eureka/Arcata refused to use the funds in a timely manner. Too many protests with no plan, too much stalling from our citizenry--of course they took it back! Eureka/Arcata had 11 years to work out a plan and figure it out. No one's fault but Humboldt County's.
