Ok, they come here to take losses. How come The Gap, Ralph Loren, and Old Navy, among others, are no longer here?

Ray's is far from a "huge" corporation.
Huge corporations do not open stores in Eureka California to take an "affordable loss". Why do you think that there are so many empty storefronts in the mall? It certainly isn't because a "huge corporation" was making a profit. More likely profit left and so did the store.
You would rather see more temporary homes than the mall building? Whether or not more retail will help our "struggling economy" may be open to debate, would you agree that more retail coming to town indicates that businesses (just by locating here) believe the economy is improving? What would it take for you to believe it as well?
Laura if you can substantiate your claim as to the cleanliness of the facility under discussion you should report same to the health department. If you don't you do a disservice to the entire community. I have a feeling you know as much about that as you know about the laws regarding glove use. Here's the law as it relates to that subject:

(a) Gloves shall be worn when contacting food and
food-contact surfaces if the employee has any cuts, sores, rashes,
artificial nails, nail polish, rings (other than a plain ring, such
as a wedding band), uncleanable orthopedic support devices, or
fingernails that are not clean, smooth, or neatly trimmed.
(b) Whenever gloves are worn, they shall be changed, replaced, or
washed as often as handwashing is required by this part.
(c) If used, single-use gloves shall be used for only one task,
such as working with ready-to-eat food or with raw food of animal
origin, used for no other purpose, and shall be discarded when
damaged or soiled, or when interruptions in the food handling occur.
(d) Except as specified in subdivision (e), slash-resistant gloves
that are used to protect the hands during operations requiring
cutting shall be used only with food that is subsequently cooked as
specified in Section 114004, such as frozen food or a primal cut of

will not be subsequently cooked if the slash-resistant gloves have a
smooth, durable, and nonabsorbent outer surface or if the
slash-resistant gloves are covered with a smooth, durable,

unless the food is subsequently cooked.
It would appear that law only requires the use of gloves under the circumstances above.
Gloves? Really? Why? I'm sure she washed her hands first. Here's a news flash, if one cooks the meat before eating it any pathogens will be killed by that process. Gloves indeed!
Well UMM, having been closely involved with the local retail grocery business for many years I can attest to the fact that many small retail establishments purchase a portion of their inventory at Costco. Step into most any small grocer in Humboldt and your more than likely to see some type of "Kirkland Signature" product for sale therein. Maybe it's batteries, maybe its water etc. It's a part of many small retailers business plan to resell Costco Merchandise. Costco actively promotes itself to these businesses and makes it very easy for them to do this. There was a time, and it may still be going on, that a retailer could call in an order to the big C and it would be delivered soon thereafter. There is nothing wrong with the practice of using a warehouse store as a source of product for resale. I imagine that there are more than a few such small retailers that use the Grocery Outlet and maybe even Winco for the same purpose. Certainly, there is nothing wrong with this practice. It's a normal part of doing business. I expect that Wal-Mart product will turn up for sale in other retail establishments as well.
