"Winkler offered a simple explanation for the lack of serious challengers: 'By and large, people are happy with the job we’re doing,'"
It's always entertaining to read "winner's" self-adulation in a political system so corrupted by money that over half the eligible electorate remains either unregistered or abstains in every election.
If any local media had the guts to allow a journalist to routinely peel back the thin veneer on the local development community's corrupt political control of this county and its cities.... a few more folks might start seeing a reason to register and turn-out to vote!
It's all about who you know. If you don't actually know the people signing...you need to get 3-times more than required!
Everywhere other than Arcata, politics is "who you know", but is one of Hum.co's top censored stories.
Get the development community to sign-on...and you win...
So did/does Cindy Sheehan.
Try to remember that when she comes here to speak!
The prescient point about Walmart, aside from it's well-documented bad-neighbor practices, is always lost because media never covers it.
All the national research, including the ONLY local professional economic research, confirm that rural communities cannot sustain unlimited numbers of poverty-wage jobs.
Eureka surpassed its sustainable limits back in 1999, according to Bay Area Economics.
If citizens were better informed, the other majority might finally register to vote and stop electing, and reelecting the same old developer-backed candidates.
Yet, isn't it odd that it's only Bohn's 2 campaigns where corrupt, phony front groups are used in Humboldt County's political history?
Meanwhile...the most corrupt election in H.Co history quietly came and went....
Despite our "information age"...there's powerfully little of it!
Will voters be kept informed on this county's agent of landmark political corruption by November?
Local reporters and media sources have remained remarkably well-heeled to avoid headlining simple, uncomfortable truths about Humboldt's most powerful political shot-callers.
The NCJ's 2010 "Interested Parties" by John Osborn was the first, and the last, to report how Bohn's development community contributors have been winning all local elections outside Arcata, as they've done for over a generation...with painfully few exceptions.
This is the reason Bohn's donor list omits occupations despite the well-understood violations of law. It's just another carefully calculated "incompetence" by Bohn's veteran political advisers.
There is some humor in watching Bohn's supporters, and the campaign itself, resort to election-reporting illegalities and corrupt fliers thinking they can win 51% today!
"Arrogance" "ignorance" and "incompetence" do not quite suffice.
They are running a systematically corrupt, poorly reported, campaign.
And yes, thank you Ryan!
