Actually I'm sick of the special interest corruption in my local government where growers (and some others) get to push their way into local government using money or other tools. I am not anti-grow anything but But I sure don't like it when the rest of the community needs objective representation and it is out of our reach because of the specialized interests. I think Estelle Fennell is the worse thing to happen to Humboldt County in a very long time. What Mr. Burns has described is a mere beginning of cronism. SoHum has suffered from this type of insular political social structure. I don't want it imported to Northern Humboldt and I will turn out and organize to stop it certainly. Estelle is a one term girl as far as I am concerned. Regulations are sensible when they benefit the most people and those people are paying all their taxes and our local officials are not owing to specialized, corrupt, influences distorting legislation and asking for exemptions because they are, well, special.
WalMart. Brought to you Humboldt and Friends by the Carrington Company.
Why is the public funded high school's anything supporting and promoting a private company's opening like WalMart? It isn't like it is also a fund raiser to pay the health bills of the underpaid WalMart clerks.
Most entertaining Sausage Pissing contest I've seen in print around here in a while. My how times don't change.
I like the fact that Paul doesn't play gentle with things which are disturbing myself. And Paul has been in positions to have more indepth dealings with the fall-out from campaigns than others. Thank you Paul. Perhaps Mr. Salzman would care to defend himself, in print, with the appropriate name. That would be the reasonable way to proceed.
Maybe we could name this the "Sorry we are not going to let you make people uncomfortable ordinance." Or perhaps the "Homeless People Shouldn't Protest" ordinance. Or how about the "Life Isn't Perfect Ordinance And I Have More Political Power Than You Because I Have More Money" ordinance. Or "Protests Only Allowed When Regularly Groomed and Beautiful" ordinance. I thought Humboldt was above such fascist acts of suppression. There were better ways to handle it.
