Re: “Vote This Way

There is quite the typo in my letter. My letter said $60/$100K assessed value and $30/$100K. This has been edited to say $60,000/$100,000 assessed value and $30,000/$100,000. I doubt that anyone could survive this edited rate. Correct translation is $60/$100,000 and $30/$100,000. Hopefully my point is still getting across. Thanks for printing my letter - Gaye Gerdts

Re: “On Higher Wages

Measure R will lift working people out of poverty and boost the local economy. Raising wages in Eureka means working people and their families will be able to live more decently. The opposition wants to continue paying poverty wages to workers while their businesses thrive on the workers' labor. So, the opposition has come up with this backwards idea that better living for working people would "punish" Eureka. That is absurd.

Business will improve with higher wages, so even these whining employers will benefit. They would know that if they looked at any of the other places that have raised their wages. A higher minimum wage is good for working families. Good for business. All the research indicates that the benefits of raising the minimum wage are consistent, regardless of the size of the locales that raise wages.

If Eureka Natural Foods is so great to its workers already, why has it actively fought against its workers organizing for a union, and for higher wages? Of course, if the employer was willing to raise wages without Measure R, we wouldn't need it! But people have been paid measly poverty wages for far too long. The decent thing to do is raise wages! Morally and fiscally, it's the right thing to do. Fair is Fair.

We need Measure R! It's the people's initiative to alleviate poverty. Vote YES on R for Fair Wages.

Re: “Viacom Zaps Suddenlink

I think the issue is bigger than just "is the Daily Show on my cable feed."

If you are a Suddenlink Internet ONLY customer, (no Suddenlink cable service, no Suddenlink phone service), you still cannot go to the website for the Daily Show and watch the free streaming episode posted there for everybody. You get the "you are a Suddenlink customer, go to hell" message from Viacom.

However, if you browse to the same site for the Daily Show via 101 Netlink, or via AT&T, or some other ISP, you can stream the show no problem. I am pretty sure Seth from Netlink is NOT PAYING VIACOM for those of his customers that use their internet to stream a show! So, Viacom is now censoring what you can watch on the internet based on who you your ISP is, and whether or not that ISP service provider also own a cable service that won't "play ball" with Viacom, regardless if you, the affected consumer, are a cable customer or not! I cannot conceive how that is even legal. What does the ISP service people purchase have to do with cable service when they are not a cable customer?

Re: “Raise-worthy?

“Hear us when we say that we know what we are worth. Without us, you would not survive.” -Eureka worker to her employer

Measure R will enable people who work hard to earn a fair wage, pay their bills, and take care of their children. Raising the minimum wage will rejuvenate our economy, directly resulting in more jobs, more local spending, and lower poverty rates. Fair wage employers will stay competitive through higher productivity and increased local patronage.

Over 65% of people who will directly benefit from Measure R are working women, many of them raising children. Almost 90% of workers who will directly benefit from Measure R are older than 20. One third of workers who will get higher wages are over age 40.

Re: “Lessons from the Hunks Show

In my through investigations and observations.....

Women at a male strip show have great fun...yelling, jumping up and down, whistling, hooting and rushing to jam their dollars in the thongs of a muscle gods.
This same reaction is prevalent at men on men strips shows too. Gay boys just whoop it up watching strippers.

Meanwhile, when str8 men are at a female strip show, one could hear a pin drop as they all just sit there in stupors trying to imagine what having sex with her would be like. They don't seem to be having any fun at all. Completely internalized.

To me the extremely different behaviors between the two heterosexual genders pretty much sums it all up.....str8 men are from Mars....Women are from Venus.

Re: “Lessons from the Hunks Show

The funny thing is that there is more female nudity than male nudity.. Women love to yelly whistle and scream at the good looking guys with e nice body and god looks but when a guy is ugly he gets verbal and physical bused for it.

Re: “Think Kink

Fetish nite was fun at the Siren's, but there is acually a very real group that follows in tradition of the Impropriety Society. Something Different Humboldt can be found on Facebook, they serve the sex possitive community and they throw some spectacular parties, and in no way are they vanilla! This crew really knows how to throw a sexy event for adults. There was a DJ, dancing, dungeon, cuddle spaces, smoking hot performances, and a skilled crew of volunteers to assist all your needs. There were a lot of people getting down, and the food was delicious.

Re: “Raise-worthy?

WTF? A fair wage is what you and your employer agree upon. If you do not like the pay, don't take the job. Why should hard working people pay more, to finance unqualified workers? The result is fewer jobs and more unemployment collectors. By the same measure, if an employer has a good employee, then he must pay that employee enough to keep them happy, so as to keep them as an employee. Anybody ever heard of FREE ENTERPRISE? How about a Constitutional Republic? Yes, republic. I pledge allegiance, to the flag, of the United States of America. And to the REPUBLIC for which it stands...........

Re: “Viacom Zaps Suddenlink

The answer to "Why Glenn Beck" is actually pretty simple. Conservative news and commentary outlets have more viewers than their liberal counterparts. That's why Fox News is consistently #1 in the ratings and MSNBC is consistently at the bottom. It's the same situation with talk radio. Other than the ones that Suddenlink already carries, there are no liberal-leaning TV news/commentary networks that even exist, to the best of my knowledge.

If you want ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS (KEET has FOUR local TV channels), The CW, FOX, THIS TV (movie channel) and some others I can't recall, just get an outdoor TV antenna. Last I checked, there were 13 local channels being broadcast in the Eureka area. All of them are in HD and they are all FREE. I get a better picture with an outdoor antenna than I ever did on cable.

BTW, as for Viacom's whining and urging you to call Suddenlink and demand "your channels" back, it isn't going to happen. Period. And Viacom knows it. Cable companies only have the capacity to carry a limited number of channels and since adding the "replacement" channels, there are no longer enough TV slots to bring Viacom channels back. Even if Viacom decided to give-away their channels for free, it is way too late for that now.

Re: “Lessons from the Hunks Show

Now that str8 men have become so vain and watched a few episodes of Queer Eye For The Straight Guy they often become as shallow as the rest of this superficial culture.

No doubt some of the strippers are gay but I'm willing to bet that most are not.

Egotists, yes. Job requirement. That certainly isn't just a gay thing....although it must be a tough time to be a younger man these days. The ideal being portrayed is something few can obtain.

Women are still not paid nor treated equal to men but at least in the shallow world of fashion and advertising men have achieved parity with the unrealistic portrayal of females.

When it comes down to it....I would prefer going to a gay male strip show anyway. All the cards are laid right out on the table. No one is trying to fool anyone.

Re: “Lessons from the Hunks Show

Interesting comment "Mr. Geezer" since I assume at least 50% of these well-cared for men are gay.

Fullerton is unable to back up a single claim, and without one business saying they’ll “leave Eureka”, what’s the “emperor with no clothes” to do but continue waving his hand defiantly in the parade?

The oldest "cheap trick" in the book.
