Phil had decent advice but seemed to miss the main point of the article. Nice tribute to dad and great advice for sons and daughters. Love you sis! Terry
Actually, fat is a large part of the problem; the fat found in seeds. The Government's dietary advice to replace saturated fats with polyunsaturated oils caused the food supply to be altered. https://www.credit-suisse.com/us/en/articles/articles/news-and-expertise/2015/09/en/fat-the-new-health-paradigm.html

Last year they helped over 17,542 type 2 diabetics end the need for prescription drugs, insulin injections and blood sugar monitoring.
This year they're on track to help over 30,000.
In just a few weeks, 96% of their patients are able to stop ALL diabetes medication and insulin injections.

This is a very helpful article. The National Wildlife Federation (NWF) has a backyard certification program with tons of resources and incentives on their website to help wildlife by landscaping sustainably--just as Donna suggests in her very cool article. We are hoping that as many backyards, porches, balconies, school yards, the HSU campus, and our places of worship register their spaces as NWF Certified Wildlife Habitat by providing the 4 habitat requirements food, water, cover, and places to raise young and commit to gardening sustainably, so that Arcata can qualify as the fifth NWF Community Wildlife Habitat in California. Three of the four habitat requirements can be provided just by planting native plants! If you're interested in certifying, please visit NWF's website and click the links that lead you to their section "gardening for wildlife." Or if you're on Facebook visit, "Arcata Community Wildlife Habitat." Thanks, Donna, for providing inspiration and expertise to help us help wildlife from our homes.
What a lovely story, Peri! Thank you for sharing this with us. I remember constantly wishing that I had more things to talk to my dad about that would help me feel closer to him when he was at the end of his life, struggling through his cancer treatments.
Such a loving tribute to your father. You were able to give him a connection and sense of purpose at the end of his life, and he gave you his passion. Thanks for sharing, and do, keep running!
Too much running (when do you know enough is enough) leads to old people slowly walking on hobbled knees and other irreversible infirmaries which are the result of repeated skeletal pounding in their youth. Similarly football players (if they don't have concussive brain syndrome) in their later years find life miserable with knee, shoulder, and other skeletal injuries. Get the same benefits through participating in golf, walking, swimming and other sports that improve your later years - not destroy your enjoyment of them. Your ability to enjoy life as an adult / senior is connected to the choices you make along the path - what you participate in, what you dissipate with, what you eat, etc. It takes awareness early in life - something most folks don't develop until it is too late.
The gopher sonic stakes along with a few gopher gas bombs did away with what seemed to be a family of gophers with a pretty extensive system that originated on the golf course that my back yard borders. Within 2 days at maximum I have been gopher free for about 9 months now and just today I helped my neighbor put some in the ground surrounding his property. Results will be posted. Wish us luck
I think tree houses are great and what not but as Crystal's neighbour I'm not to happy with her.My husband caught her putting her trash in our cans that we pay to have emptied and they won't get picked up if they are over stuffed and tonight she was shooting off illegal fireworks and another neighbor called the police on me thinking that I was shooting off guns because they couldn't figure out where the noise was coming from. Thanks Crystal for being inconsiderate of your fellow neighbours.
my business was looking for Canada Form P recently and was informed of a great service with an online forms database . If others are wanting Canada Form P as well , here's a http://pdf.ac/9PEXuQ
An additional advantage to having low maintenance plants is that, if they are also native plants, they will give shelter to the wildlife you want in your garden -- birds, butterflies, pollinators. Donna designed our front garden and it is not only beautiful, but hospitable. Where our neighbors' pristine lawns stretch without expression around their homes, our variegated landscape is alive with birds rustling in the shrubbery, hummers zipping around like busy punctuation, and the air is often buzzing with bees. Many of the plants flower. so we have a festival of sensation: sight, sound, smell.
Recent interview with Noam Chomsky included this:
How do you account for your amazing stamina and energy level at age 87?
The bicycle theory. As long as you keep riding, you dont fall.
Hi Rosanna, best person to ask would be Louisa Morris of the Mendocino Land Trust. I'm guessing 50-100 of these trees.
How many candelabra trees are there? Are they all approximately the same age?
Drinking is not a mando...There have been some pretty good 100 % pay outs... plus different surprises..
visible, or invisible, recognized or unrecognized, interesting or not, one thing was true. They could not imagine the imminent and clear danger they were in until it was too late. This is the lesson for us today. It is the same apathy, carelessness or ignorance about the destructive forces in our lives. for ex proxy wars that can turn into a nuclear war any day now, or irreversible damaging and depletion of natural resources like tropical forests, oceans, water streams or atmosphere. This is happening everyday we see or hear about it but, we go on with our business in the same manner everyday because we only care about our senses and convenience but not enough about our children's future or how we are going die one day.
Dan Everett deals with the merge/recursion confusion--also whether a single counter-example of a language lacking recursion voids a language gene--in this very readable discussion:
BTW, he's had to put up with a lot worse than "infantile and misdirected" over the years!
