Re: “Judged

The eureka courts may be one of the most corrupt in the country
It's time to ban the kangaroo courts
They represent blatant corruption
Justice is not a commodity to be bought and sold
Judge cissna should step down immediately

Re: “Prepare for Impact

Believing myths about vaccines is not the same thing as ''getting the facts'' and that is the core problem.

If a lawyer paid you 750,000, and you FAKED test results, did invasive tests on CHILDREN, caused mass worldwide panic, whilst patenting your own ALTERNATIVE vaccine, and TEST KITS in the hope of making $MILLIONS more.

you would be ARRESTED and sent to JAIL for child endangerment and FRAUD.

Then WHY do people think it's OK for ''Doctor'' Wakefield to do it? and WHY aren't they disgusted?

Why are vaccines even a choice? It should be child abuse to deny your kids their immunizations.

100% of the people who are bald eat food, so food must cause baldness, I don't want my kids to be bald, so I'm not going to give them food.

Sound ridiculous? That's how ridiculous anti-vaxxers sound to me.

Vaccinating is a social responsibility to protect the most vulnerable among us. Epileptics have the choice to not take their meds, but they don't have the choice to not take their meds and drive on our roads. Your freedom to swing your arms around stops at my nose. Drinking and driving is illegal, because it is a choice that has the high potential to adversely effect other people who didn't get a say in the matter. Seatbelts are mandatory for the same reason. These diseases kill, maim, and cause suffering; not just for the ones who choose to be at risk, but for those who don't have a choice.

Re: “Prepare for Impact

Vaccines are not medical treatments. They are preventive measures. Schools have always been on the front line and responsible for implementation. If they're surprised by this, they haven't been doing their job. Vaccine safety is well established globally. Mandated vaccines have been upheld by courts, including the US Supreme Court, consistently for over a century. Public health and safety trumps individual belief.

Re: “Three Skilled Nursing Facilities May Close

If the U.S. will not ensure we have adequate numbers of health care professionals, driving up costs and causing deadly shortages, we should stop protecting the industry and invite certified professionals from other nations eager to come.

It's time to put an end to bankrupting individuals and families needing basic healthcare.

Re: “Not Even From Around Here

you are incorrect in stating that it has only been less than 20 years since the eastern Europeans arrived in southern Humboldt mountains. its been almost twice that long that some of them have been well known. however, nice article. thank you.

Re: “Not Even From Around Here

Thank you for the outstanding piece. Racism doesn't belong in our community and either do the people who fuel it. It's disgusting to read the post of some and hear the hate they spread. Most of generational TRUE HUMBOLDT families deirved from immigration movements. My family came from Eastern Europe in the late 1800's worked their asses off for everything they received and still to this day own our orginial property they purchased in 1946. So... I'm very sorry to those who's choose to sell out their family land and are now bitter about it. When I travel the back roads of Humboldt I see more tweekers driving like assholes than Bulgarians.

Re: “An Apology to Our Readers

The content of the paper, be it editorial or advertising, is ultimately our responsibility. We regret running the image at all and apologize for any hurt or offense it may have caused. The North Coast Journal takes sexual assault very seriously, as we hope our past and continuing coverage shows, and the same goes for copyright law.

Really ? I reported sexual assault of my daughter to you in 2006 and you DID not even interview me

Re: “Not Even From Around Here

Great article! Ain't none of us really "from" around there, unless we are part Mattole, Weott, Sinkyone, etc. When I moved to Salmon Creek in 1992 I had no idea it was pot central; just trying to live free, grow food and get water out of the ground. I feel fortunate to have happened to get an interest in the parcel through which the Stansberry road leads down from Wilder Ridge. Haven't had the pleasure of living there or meeting many of the neighbors yet. I hope to meet you someday!

Re: “Not Even From Around Here

Good job. "..the main problem isn't the who, but the what." Great line when referring to the industry we all love but hate at the same time.

Re: “Prepare for Impact

sb277 is insane, unconstitutional, illegal, and the work of drug companies paying politicians to get it passed. it smells worse than a decomposing body.

Re: “Prepare for Impact

I don't know why there is a debate about this. Mandating chemical injections is obscene and criminal.

Re: “Prepare for Impact

Firstly, this law, while well intended, was enacted out of panic and without sufficient research into its ramifications.

Secondly, while the new law technically "continues to honor and accept exemptions for medical reasons" it changed how those medical exemptions have to be recorded and what type of medical exemption is acceptable. The medical exception for my 12-year-old is no longer valid as it does not conform to the new rules.

Re: “Best of Staff Picks

Esteban fixed me an Enchilada al Pastor this afternoon and when I told him that it was as good as anyting I could make (a compliment I don't often voice)....he grinned happily, thrust his leathery hand across the counter and thanked me. He and his story remind me of my grandparents who came here from Italy, worked hard, built a restaurant around my Nonna's excellent cooking, and established the legendary Big Four Inn--- a superb entry in our culinary history. Thanks NCJ for pointing me toward Esteban!

I suggest Floyd Squires takes on these tenants until he repays the city for all his infractions and back taxes. Just saying.
