Re: “Fair Factor

Great writing, it does my tummy a whirl.

But just so you know, I have met chickens (roosters) that could "drag you into a death roll" easily enough. Remember, birds are rather recently descended from dinosaurs, while alligators have been evolutionarily comatose for 200 million years.

Still, they ALL taste like chicken.

Re: “Chile vs. Chile

Too bad La Barca didn't get nominated. It is my personal favorite. Their relleno has a subtle smokey flavor, great Mexican queso fresco, nice batter, and a very good sauce.

The local Facebook Chile Relleno Study Group thought Esmerelda's was good, though their marginal service ticked us off. The group very much liked the Fiesta special relleno (as opposed to their regular omelet style).

I like the way Pam spreads the love.

Re: “Chile vs. Chile: Fortuna Strong

You left out Las Casuelas. Also, I think Taco Loco wins, hands down. But best steak burrito? No contest! It's La Costa! Oh, and then let's not forget the best chicken mole....Gotta leave Fortuna on that one. Oaxaca Grill is #1!

Re: “Chile vs. Chile: Eureka

I've been away for 3 years, but Ricos in Arcata used to be the best relleno for my taste!

Re: “Humboldt on Tap

Try the Bar-Fly. They offer 40 beers on tap. Great selection.

Re: “Reubenesque

I just love your articles. Make's my mouth water every time. Tried to go to the Mexican restaurant last week and really want to bite this sandwich. Thank you,

Re: “Humboldt on Tap

I tried it just last night. I'm not really big on IPAs, but when I want one, I won't be ordering this one. It tasted more like hop Kool-aid. I felt like there was definitely something missing.
Your mileage may vary.

Re: “Just Searing Some Duck

I wonder...could one remove the skin, either before or after searing to render off more fat and then put the crisp skin back on top of the duck to serve? I have some rabid anti-fat eaters here, more's the pity!

Re: “Bavarians at the Gate

I've often wondered about sanitation. I've seen her packing large dogs in the same vehicle with the food.

Re: “Bavarians at the Gate

Sadly I reported the business "Royal" Bavarian Brezen to the health department after getting a royal case of food poisoning. The premises where the food is prepared are uninspected and unregulated.

I had a dry cider at 6 Rivers Brewery by Humboldt Cider. It was really good, can't wait for work to send me the 300+ Mikes next time when the tap room opens!
