And where are the statistic coming from regarding how many from the containers have been housed? There have been conflicting reports in the community that those stats of 40+% are from numerous agencies, not Betty's containers. Again, not Betty's fault but the community's for leaving so much to one person. We don't need another hero we need systemic consistent non denominational, transparent systems of support - in addition to Betty's amazing work.
As usual in American culture we not only blame individuals too readily for their afflictions, we also leave it to individuals to do the work of a community. Betty, like any human, has her preferences and weaknesses and those have a dramatic impact on the people in need but should not. If Betty likes you, if you are male, whatever - then you have some help BUT if she isn't in the right mood that day or you are not her cup of tea then you are shut off from resources - that is not the foundation of an healthy community, it is a dictatorship no matter often a benevolent one.
Betty has done great work AND it is not healthy to have one person deciding the fate of so many vulnerable and needy people.
