Re: “Judge Denies Bid To Stop Trinity Water Releases

Does anyone else see the connection between these huge gravel bars and low/warm flows? I think the best thing that could be done for the Klamath, Trinity, Mad, Van Duzen and Eel Rivers would be to invite every gravel mining company in the western United States to come out here and scour these clogged up river beds clean.

Get the gravel out and even during low flow years the water will be in deep rocky channels like it should be, flowing quick and cool instead of filtering slowly through hot rock.

Why is gravel removal seen as such an environmental catastrophe instead of the boon for fish it would be?

Well worth it.

Re: “Wait a Second... Sunset Magazine's Dubious Geography

Hi Grant,
We always appreciate challenging feedback. Glad you blogged about the issue and included some of our links. Just thought I’d let you know that we didn’t see the cover art so we couldn’t have helped ID it. I guess it’s fair to say that Luffenholtz, one of our favorite beaches, became a “Lost Coast” of sorts in the press.

Re: “Wait a Second... Sunset Magazine's Dubious Geography

Add to that the fact that the visitors bureau gave Sunset a list of 25 places to see in Hum County that is riddled with errors. The visitors bureau is a badly run outfit that does a sloppy job.
On the whole the Sunset coverage was not very good and fails to mention any of the incredible places to go to inland other than spots on 299. Since their main source was the visitors bureau they feature many mundane, commercial spots. Too bad. We need a creative and knowledgeable visitors bureau.

I think we're lucky that they used a picture of a Humboldt county beach at all.

Re: “SECOND UPDATE:Trinity Will Get More Water; Suit Filed

As predicted, a restraining order to stop/delay the Trinity flows is prepared to file on Monday. I'm hoping we at least get the pulse flow down the river before the court system is activated. The endless fight!

Re: “Best Ever? HSU Alum Retires, Takes Football Coaching Job

This article is ridiculous. Dixon is obviously a great player at the IFL level but to say he had the best professional sports career of anyone with Humboldt ties is naive, uninformed and lazy. He plays in the IFL which isn't even the highest level of indoor football. That would be the AFL where with a little digging you would find Maurice Purify, whose accomplishments at a higher level of competition easily outdo Dixon's not to mention Purify has played in the NFL.

Back to Jaso and Maualuga, these guys are playing at a level where Dixon didn't just go un-drafted, he didn't get a sniff. They are putting together very respectable careers at the peak of competition, Dixon's career can't compare.

Mo Charlo, the Iorg brothers, Ned Yost, Bob Wilson, Billy Olson, Mike Pigg, Austin Nicols, Fred Hooks, just to name a some more research you shouldn't make bold statements just to make bold statements, use a little logic and have enough background knowledge to realize that the IFL barely qualifies as professional sport.

As for the bowler, he's definitely the best bowler to ever come out of Humboldt, bowling isn't a sport and bowlers aren't athletes but good for him.

You're welcome, hope you had a good day at school.

Re: “PO’d about the Eureka P.O.? There’s a Town Hall for That.

I have always had great service at the post office, including getting a letter that was sent to an address that was probably 20 years old. Someone remembered it was my old address and sent it on to my new one.

Re: “PO’d about the Eureka P.O.? There’s a Town Hall for That.

This post office is a nightmare anyway. I run a local business and ship out packages to customers daily. My packages get "lost" in the sorting facility in Eureka at least 1-2 times a week, which results in a loss of sales and product. Maybe moving our mail to Oregon isn't such a bad thing after all.

Re: “Chesbro Explains Lonely 'No' Vote

Salmon once ran the rivers of Southern California.

With or without future diversions, Humboldt County continues to lack the slightest local leadership on this issue. Its aquifers, tributaries, rivers and dependent biodiversity will continue their precipitous collapse from increasing unregulated use and abuse, Marijuana is hardly the only source of nitrogen, pesticides, phosphates, and overuse.

Nobody's had the guts to tell our good old boys and girls what they can or can't do with "their" water that's freely available for the price of a pump and a hose.

Thank Wes Chesbro. Your right on target because when they build it, they'll come for the water. I am seeing fewer and fewer options other than supporting the secession movement and joining the State of Jefferson

Re: “Prosecutor: Murder Conviction Thanks to Bravery of Witnesses

Tree was acquitted on murder 1. Absent from headlines. Not legal 2 convict on murder 1 on uncorroborated circumstantial evidence. Special jury instruction by judge to convict on murder 2 if murder 1 not proved. Friday jury decided to adjourn and deliberate again 8/18 due to inability to decide that day. Then in hours after shutting down convicted on charge of murder 1 not filed against him, not tried for. Extrajudicial conviction must be thrown out. 5th amendment US constitution guarantees due process. Press prints sentencing parameters for murder 1 instead of 2 as what he faces. Firpo intends to sentence him on a charge he is acquitted of. Remember Tawana Brawley?/// Investigation ordered into DA comitting Capitol offense - meaning punishable by death penalty - for concealing evidence that could exonerate Tree: refused to have forensics for gunshot residue and victims blood done on Tree's clothing, as required by FBI standards for homicide investigation. Ordered to turn pants over by judge. DA Refused!
Why? Ballistics expert testified that shooter would have blood & GSR on clothing due to close range firing. This case is cold as Ice. See Mad River Union for weaknesses in prosecutiin's case. My informed opinion after viewing the court minutes (illegally concealed from press by staff) and attending trial: frame-up.
