Re: “Closed

Man what a "downer" of an opinion. I can't believe all is lost and I won't stop trying as long as I'm physically able to help contribute something to my community. Flat roof buildings are a challenge to maintain. The houses and apartment buildings in other cities have successfully achieved their construction for hundreds of years. But they do need constant attention more than conventional roofing. The Vet building isn't beyond repair at this point. I hope it can be reborn as a tribute to our veterans and a continuing center for our community.

Re: “Closed

I am sad to see another unintelligible rant from the chronically depressed, sick and stoned correspondent chronicling the mournful, sad decay in Goobsterdam. Right up the street from the disgusting veteran's hall, which should have been torn down decades ago, is the reprehensible Jerold Phelps Hospital-like structure, which should be closed and have an orange fence erected around it!
Goobsterdam is nothing more than a dead town inhabited by pot farmers, and operated by the remaining businessmen who moved out long ago. This little burg has nothing, is nothing, and probably will never recover. Even Cedarville and Portola and Hoopa have better medical facilities! Goobsterdam has had nothing new built in the last 50 years, with the possible exception of the Motels-which have become drug supermarkets and where no thinking person would stay...
The funniest part is that Goobsterdam is always whining about needing help! The folks in this town hate outsiders vehemently, and Goobstedam is one of the most provincial, xenophobic, paranoid and hostile places I have ever been. If it wasn't so crazy there, I would call it a small hole containing extreme conservatism. They paint themselves as hippies but they are really Republicans! All the folks there want is for you to come and spend some money (CASH ONLY!) and then leave.
John, your essay says to me "burn down the Veteran's Hall and Humboldt County will have to build us a new one". This is a dangerous viewpoint, but typical of the thinking of the disabled pot growers in Humboldt County.
Come to think of it, Garberville is a less than attractive nuisance, and the whole place should just have the orange-fence treatment that it is famous for.
