Re: “Officers and Suspect in Arcata Shooting Identified, Updated with Photos

Don Arminio of the Arcata Police Department is a violent bully. Doesn't surprise me that he'd shoot someone, and not in any way justifiable, not defending ANYONE. I hope Joshua pulls through! The cops need to stop terrorizing and stealing lives. They are cowards, creeps, and bullies. #FireDonArminio #FTP

Re: “Lazio's Last Stand

Just came across this article about Lazio's. I fished off the Lazio cannery loading dock when I was a munchkin, 10, 11 years old. Now it's 2016, I'm 62 and living up here in Crescent City.
Yeah, Let's see, "Duce St." the Card Room, Golden Horn, Silver Dollar Club, Vince's Log Cabin. Myself and a few of my buddies Used to ride our bikes from Harris and California streets with our fishing poles down to Lazio's and kill a couple hours fishing off the docks. Those were the days, nothing like today.

Re: “Queasy Eats

I love it! Excellent article. Thanks for the sharing, I also found a useful service for forms filling. Maybe you would be interested in an online service with a ton of Form templates (tax, real estate, legal, business, insurance forms, etc..) I used it to fill out

Re: “Appellate Court Hears Police Video Arguments

I doubt there are many high-ranking officials in Eureka or Humboldt County that could withstand this kind of media diligence in the public interest.

Real journalism is almost unheard of today.

Eureka's attorney, Ms. Cindy Day-Wilson, doesn’t sit in a room by herself deciding which alternative reality will be the most effective to delude the public and which one she’ll use on 3 intelligent judges, that’s why she won’t be fired immediately.

Official video recordings are not to be viewed by the public; they are there to put the public at ease.

Once again, it’s those "troublesome" big-city outsiders poking their noses into “Our Neck of the Woods” causing our community elites a kafuffle over nothing, another unwelcome intrusion like the Coastal Commission, the EPA, the Water Board, or the California Attorney General who is currently having to fight Humboldt County for access to Child Welfare Services records.

Thank you NCJ and Thadeus Greenson.

Re: “Piecemeal Transparency

Supporting 3 bills that limit public access while claiming they increase public access used to be the standard republican M.O.

"Democrats in name only" are the reason the democratic party has hemorrhaged members and 80% didn't vote in the 2016 primary.

Would officers be more careful discharging lethal weapons if they know the public is watching?

Would there still be executions if they were televised?

No one in the U.S. in the 19th century would have tolerated nor imagined that, one day, being drunk and violent in public justified being shot-on-sight.

Here's how a violent man with a machete was handled in the UK:…

Re: “The Curious Case of Parcel 106-101-054

I have seen the future for the Emerald Triangle.
It ain't pretty.

Corporations and other rich cretins have and are driving prices sky high.
This noted speculator is a prime example of greed making folks do stupid things.
Sadly, we regular residents will pay the many ways.

It may take a bit longer but we will also see even more obscene increased housing prices.

No longer will anyone just wanting a small piece of the countryside ever be able to make any dream come true.

No longer will anyone be able to buy their 'starter' home. Probably already can't afford one as prices are currently excessively high.

The only folks looking forward to the oncoming green rush are realtors. We know how soulless most of them are. They don't give a damn about anything but their fees and commissions.

We may have won the battle but we have lost the war....and I ain't talking about the completely worthless 'War On Drugs'.

It's only gonna get worse.
Count on it.

Re: “Grand Jury Blasts Behavioral Health Board for Lack of Oversight

Now it's clear.

If the Behavioral Health Board had kept the supervisors informed about the local human health crisis, the supervisors would have cooperated with the California Attorney General's investigation of Humboldt's Child Welfare Services instead of spending that "money we don't have" on fighting to stop it.

Re: “Slow Roll

I disagree with the paving of the Arcata Marsh trails. There are other materials that can be used on trails that are natural to the area and usable by those who use a chair, walkers and other legal mobility devices. Part of the concern and bout the Trails in the marsh is the constant need for maintenance and possible new look at how the trails are laid out, but paving them would not be the thing to do.

Clam beach, according to the State Park Service has available chairs with the large wheels to travel on the beach - I have never used one because of the difficultly of transferring, but I would check in with the park service first and see what they got.

It would be nice to establish a hard surface to travel to the beach and this is a reachable goal, but it is costly and I would want to know it would be something that is not destroyed.

Friends of the Dunes are building a trail - I was old it would be accessible, but I have heard this before. I forwarded information on what is needed to be accessible and hope the advice is taken. Be nice to have access to the facility

Re: “Aggressive Hitchhiker Spotted in King Salmon

The tag, depending on color, has a number which we can track through our tag system. This is Floyd. He had been rehabilitated and released from The Marine Mammal Center down in Marin county back in May. He was becoming too comfortable around people and was relocated to Cape Mendocino last Saturday for his own protection. If anyone sees a tagged marine mammal, please call our local Northcoast Marine Mammal Center stranding line with the location of the animal at 707-951-4722.

Re: “HSU Settles Suit with Ousted Indian Program Director

What I absolutely hate about every damn lawsuit against HSU is the part where they get a gag order. They pay out as they know they are wrong but if you really stick to your morals then F the payout and let them finally get caught at everything they do.

Dan Pambianco gag order so well done sir. Expose these crooks please

Re: “Fair Pay

It is irresponsible of Eureka and Humboldt County leadership to allow Eureka to suffer the underfunded services, infrastructure, and skewed statistics caused by their failure to "carry the ball" in getting Eureka's border communities incorporated.

It's the only way Eureka will get even one of its officers to live in the city they police.

How many millions of dollars in state and federal funds is Eureka losing each year because only 1/3 of its actual population is being reported? Eureka loses millions so that the rich can escape a few fees building subdivisions just "outside" city limits.

This would have been a good opportunity to report the costs of lawsuits against Eureka that resulted from excessive force by under-trained, overworked officers required to respond to the PTSD of homelessness, drug abuse, child abuse and mental illness.

Report the actual population and Eureka will have full state and federal funding for its schools, infrastructure, and an appropriate police force without their chief having to "entice" recruits by advertise the excessive number of calls each officer receives that is the result of under-staffing.
