Re: “Nerfing the World

In San Francisco the primary use of the countdown timers is so drivers can speed up to try to avoid the red light.

Re: “Nerfing the World

I am older than Ryan but I appreciate {but not observe b} countdowns at critical {often violated} intersections with mayhem
between autos and humans---the vital word is CAUTION../.....

Re: “Nerfing the World

I don't know how old Ryan is, but assuming he isn't an octogenarian or nonagenarian now, one day he probably will be...shuffling across 4th or 5th, appreciating the countdown timers that he now scoffs at.

Re: “All Aboard the Fun Bus

Ryan Hurley your editorial comments where affensive to the public.

" When you think about it, transit buses and public restrooms have a lot in common. Both are uncomfortable and both are stalwart offenders of one's olfactory glands. "

Re: “No Jojo Left Behind

Ryan Hurley has gone from being a funny interesting read to being a snarky troll. What happened? The NCJ can do better than this.

Re: “Lame Duck Dynasty

Well done Ryan.

Too bad this kind of reporting is so rare it must be masked in satire.

I long for the day that journalists return to expressing legitimate concerns with their community.

Re: “'Daddy, Why Are They Called Turkey Bags?'

Hey humboldtrick, I'm glad we've got smarty-pants fact-checkers like you on the job. Your knowledge of drug cultivation is far superior to mine -- you're a real asset to the community. Please enlighten us further about the mysterious world of growing marijuana plants.

Re: “'Daddy, Why Are They Called Turkey Bags?'

Well I hope you research your clients' cases better than you research something as basic as the words you use. "Sensimilla"???? Really? I know it's from a foreign language and those darn pesky foreign languages can just be too hard for us stupid Americans to fathom. The word is "sinsemilla" from the conjunction of "sin" meaning without, and "semilla" meaning seeds. It is from the Spanish language. Considering the word has been in use here in America since the 1970s, it is unbelievable that you don't know how it is spelled.

And six gallons of water per plant per day? That is a huge overestimation.

Re: “Humlandia

Ghost towns? Santa Rosa? Healdsburg? Petaluma? If we only offer poor selection, over priced, and rude help, no wonder our youth wants to leave. Do you know the average hourly wage of the girl behind the counter in Old Town? She can't pay her rent either. They want what's out there. You think Target is responsible for the filthy tweaker motels on Broadway? We need more progressive thought, growth, choice, not a community stuck in old hippy ways of living.

Re: “Humlandia

I am thinking I will go to my still not understanding why folks seemingly don't want to know just how devastating these large, crappy, greedy corporate big box stores are to a local economy.

There are hundreds and hundreds if not thousands of examples of where towns now qualify for the ghost town lists because of the devastating effects of these monster stores.

Why can't folks see that it isn't worth it or even in their own best interest to 'maybe' be able to buy some cheap, foreign made crap that is really unneeded in the first place.

Does no one really care about the indentured employees who are treated like crap? Is no one really aware that Walmart and probably Target employees qualify for food stamps and government health care because they are paid so horribly?
Do folks not understand that we, the taxpayers, are indirectly supporting the welfare of those workers while the Waltons just get richer and richer....obscenely so at that?

This is just as confusing to me as why o why did a little less than half of this country vote for the Mittster for president.
Granted obomber isn't a heckuva lot better but why wasn't it obvious to all that president mitt would have greatly accelerated the imminent demise of this failed experiment in 'democracy' called the USA.

Why do folks here in Humboldt County continue to elect such corporate shills to be supervisors and council members? Could it be that it's because few are really paying attention to anything but those deceitful, lying, polluting mailers we all get just before voting?

Of course, none of this will change. Wanna see our counties/worlds future? Watch the almost unwatchable film Idiocracy....once thought of as a bad comedy but looking more and more like a prophetic documentary.

Although I am in my last years of life (hurrah) it will be sad yet interesting to watch the slow, agonizing collapse of this failed experiment called USA.

As said before, We may not have the government we want but we have the government we deserve.

While pointing out the cold ironies of local ethnic cleansing, you might consider dropping "American" when writing about the native people.
