Esteban fixed me an Enchilada al Pastor this afternoon and when I told him that it was as good as anyting I could make (a compliment I don't often voice)....he grinned happily, thrust his leathery hand across the counter and thanked me. He and his story remind me of my grandparents who came here from Italy, worked hard, built a restaurant around my Nonna's excellent cooking, and established the legendary Big Four Inn--- a superb entry in our culinary history. Thanks NCJ for pointing me toward Esteban!
one could not be selective with fifteen no less requirement so for the first time Ididn't
John Tutuska passed on to a brighter spot on Sunday, October 15th, 2012. Rest in peace John.
A heartfelt thank-you Jim! I have followed your weather forecasts through all the storms and your career changes. I even watched you on the San Francisco channel on week-ends. You made the weather fun!
Great job, thank-you.
A Weather Fan!
Even when the forcast was bad, I still was calmed by Jim's attitude. What was even better was he looked and his voice was like my Dad. That makes two people who I miss now. Thanks Jim, your the best weatherman ever.
Great article on Mr. Fugate!! Yay for a talented man, hard working, having fun, making $, having babies, loving and supporting them....Loving and supporting them. What could be any better? He's why we go to ArtsAlive! Great article on this local celebrity!! Go, Rick! We love you!! <3
Once again, I made the mistake of reading the comments section. Looloo, you'll learn one day that name calling only makes people not give a shit about what you have to say. And "Me", your comment is just sad. NCJ, great job on the article. Three Foods and Missing Link Records are two of my favorite places!
Hey, Looloo. This party is interactive. Tell us what we missed and why you think it's great. If you're still angry after that, maybe you can make a "Worst of Humboldt" issue and put us on the cover. We won't mind.
Fugate plays great accordion, but 5 kids with one on the way? Please don't reward reckless procreation with $$ in his case.
love the Rick Fugate "best of". Well done Andrew.
This "best of" guide seems to have been written by people who know little or nothing about the real Humboldt. Many of these things are only Old Town Eureka or Arcata things. Which is kind of funny because the Journal used to be in Arcata but is now in Old Town. It is obvious that every single person who wrote something for this wasted issue of the NCJ was just another local idiot who has no idea what real quality is. Come on, the sunbather? Really? He's been around for years. This is NOT NEWS TO ANYONE.
As usual, Journal FAIL.
Best Bar in eureka is The BOILER ROOM!!!
Lots of booze, frendship and single people!
Thanks Jennifer for proclaiming the library "Best place to be seen"! I would like to point out, however, that the library owns a copy of "Party girl". You can check it out for a week with a valid library card.
This was the most entertaining, funny, and interesting 'best of' i have ever seen!
Thanks to NJC for trying to remind people why we all live and love here.
I wish the Times-Standard would write like this....
Now, if only Mike Dronkers would call me and discuss how I can get paid to report on the happenings between Trinidad and Orick!
It's in the readers' picks section, Carol.
Where is the best reason to live here?
yes! Jacob Nunes from Dutch Bros is a wonderful young man and I so much enjoy his enthusiasm, his singing to the loud tunes, and his memory of what I like to order. He takes one look at me in the morning and knows if I want decaf or regular. What a darlin!
I concur with the choice of best single-track. I think it's some of the best single track trail in the country. Of course, my opinion is heavily biased.
i must say that i too love that jacob nunes from dutch bros. hes a keeper for sure!
