Re: “Living Trials

We're fully investigating this device and may start a class action lawsuit against the manufacturer.

Read about the possible class action here: http://www.nationalinjuryhelp.com/defective-products/essure-contraceptive-implant-lawsuit/

Re: “Arcata Moves Forward on Marijuana Zone

This is good news. I strongly support medical cannabis but see rampant abuse of the system.

Cannabis growers have taken over Arcata's rental market, inflating rental rates to the point that they are un-affordable to people not making a profit from their rental units.

Greedy cannabis growers must be controlled.

Re: “There's a New Theater Owner in Town

Get Michael Moore involved. The Minor Theater is historic and maybe Moore who wants to bring back downtown movie theaters. Thsi theater is the longest operating. Deserves national attention.

Re: “Growing the Machine

Thadeus-- Good article, except this awful assumption about ...."unified the local marijuana industry behind a single vision." Have you taken a poll? Not likely. Have you attended any of the potlucks? Not sure the hill people are buying the ordinance. Not sure if only the "unified" are the grow industry businesses and not really the growers.

Re: “Growing the Machine

Sorry, I'm not buying this eco groovy land use fiasco. Politicians in bed with large scale grow businesses; why are we not surprised the out-of-towners are pushing land use regulations to benefit businesses without an eye to the watersheds. It's all about the buck - the other green.

I, too, am moved by Neff's enthusiasm. All the best. Glad it's in local, loving hands.

Re: “The Great Bike Helmet Debate

Good read. Statistics don't take into account 99.9999999+% of all bicycle rides, which begin and end without incident. The minute you start proposing or supporting mandatory helmet laws, check your own head. Bicycles should always be free jump-n-go fun and transportation for the masses.

Re: “Homicide by Police

Estrada's family has only six months to file a wrongful death suit against the CHP.

That's the primary reason "investigations" can take over 6 months.

Re: “Reckoning Day

Well, the bastards lied to us again. They trick the public into raising sales tax so they won't have to cut police and fire services, and six months later they are doing just that. I posted a comment on the pro-tax Facebook page that this is exactly what would happen even if the tax passed. Everyone needs to remember this next time the liars ask for another tax increase. They'll just keep cutting services until there are no more. And remember this bullshit the next time they ask to be re-elected. Screw 'em.

Re: “A Well Driller's Life

I'm sure the well drillers in California must be frantic right now. Hopefully they are still able to hit water eventually. The high fives right now have got to be much more meaningful with that horrible drought going on. I wonder how much deeper they have to dig right now to get to that water if there's even any to find.

Re: “'This Devaluation of Human Life'

Do you really believe that some of these drug related deaths were because of weed and not methamphetamine or heroin????? Come on now.

Re: “Throw Like the Irish

I just read with dismay the Journal’s promotion of the concept of heaving heavy steel balls onto our local roads (“Throw Like the Irish”, Rees Hughes, May 14). How about if we promote hitting the roads with sledgehammers? Great fun! And it doesn’t cost anything to do it, right? Not.

In my work I travel a lot around the state and the country, with a lot of driving, so I have a pretty broad experience of road conditions. Humboldt County has among the worst road conditions anywhere, IMHO. Even in Arcata, I know I’m home when I get to the stunningly crappy conditions on Beverly Drive.

How does the Journal prioritize the common good and collective costs vs. promoting individuals doing whatever (intentionally or unintentionally) destructive activity they may dream up and mask behind some positive value such as outdoor recreation?

I received an email from a colleague recently with this footer that seems a worthwhile reminder: “Thought of the day: Knowledge is being aware of what you can do. Wisdom is knowing when not to do it.”

Re: “Homicide by Police

How do you assume such actualities? Hard core facts, I think not. facts? If there are so many facts, why is the investigation continuing for over five months. 5 months is a little too long to believe and even swallow if the State has so many hard core facts. Sounds more like their attempting to cover something up to me. Its people like you why our country went to shit along time ago.....................

Re: “Homicide by Police

Try the truth a little. Estrada's tox screen came out clean except for the prescribed medication he was on that was supposed to be helping his condition. It was a new prescription and was not working well with him. I *am* a witness. I think perhaps the anchor-less rage you are spewing says more about what is wrong with this country than anything else.

Re: “Homicide by Police

Fact: The officer sustained Major injuries to his face, forearm, and hand (I really doubt they were self inflicted to make his story sound believable).
Fact: There are witnesses!
Why don't you actually do some fact checking of your own you stupid piece of shit. People like you are the reason this country is going to shit

Re: “Bummmmer

Police taking names and numbers?....in a public park?....just for being there?

Is that legal?

Wonder what would happen if someone refused to give them personal information?

Where's that 'probable cause' we keep hearing so much about?

Someone call the ACLU.

From what I read about this years 'celebration', there wasn't much to shout about other than the punitive conditions the city and the thug cops put on the approval permit.

Good for you, Mr. Mayor and Council of Arcata. You successfully pounded one more nail in the citizens ability to assemble freely.
Sure feel safer knowing the thug Arcata cops have saved us all from the drooling masses of stoners that tried to invade an open to the public park.

I'll tell you the above statement is sarcastic as y'all seem to have lost any sense of humor or common sense....as if any of you ever had it to begin with.

Excellent hike. Be prepared for any weather conditions. Carry several copies of tide charts and never get stuck at high tide.
