Re: “Jersey Boys

Great movie - not as good as seeing it on Broadway. But, totally fun, full of great music, good acting and focuses on the band's story with lots of drama and dialogue.

Re: “To Bamboo or Not to Bamboo

clumping bamboo is the same as any ordinary ornamental grass. of course its root zone will expand as it ages, but does not run and is not invasive

So you hired Lionel Hutz as the county PD? You people (voters) need to get off your asses and start electing some competent people. This idiot got hired because you elect idiots.

Re: “Culture Change

A culture wherein people self-medicate their cares away and, in their altered reality, perform poorly in the schools, create hazards on the roadway while they are drive, attract a criminal element, and shatter standards of character / health / and respect for others needs to change alright....but not in the direction the marijuana industry wants it to.

Re: “Culture Change

Mr. Rowley seems out of touch and disillusioned. Having lived and worked in Willow Creek for 20 years. I see things with a slightly more open minded mentality. Weed growing has been a part of the community for a very long time. Most cultivation taken place on national forest lands out any close to town mountain road. In clandestine plots. Post 1996 locals and pilgrims began to grow in their yards under the guise of prop 215. Our community became more open and accepting of cultivation after two local garden supply stores opened in town. Since then we have seen in increase in arrival of new settlers. You know the ones with flat bill hats with the logo of their team captain Ted Simpkins. These are the group of folks in town with the least ties to the community. With little or no support to the benefit of town.

I too have seen the decline of test scores in the local county school. I have also witnessed the fledgling charter school provide an alternative education for those seeking a better education. I saw the community come together locals and pilgrims to make candy stick park a gem once again. Which would warm ol' Flowers heart! Things actually appear to me to be on an upswing from 20 years ago. We now have more local businesses to support. Without hauling all our purchases from the coast. The parks and water system Mr. Rowley speaks of being in disrepair. Is partially his own fault as a previous memeber of the community services district. Rather then placing blame on the growers try taking responsibility. You and Mr. Holmes are more to blame. Being surrounded by forest service land greatly reduces our property tax base here in Willow creek in turn reducing what comes back into the community for capital improvements.

If Mr. Rowley doesn't like the trimmigrants hanging out on the street in the fall, it is his responsibility as an ambassador to willow creek and business owner to offer some of his 18 rental units to these savvy international travelers. Rather then complaining look for simple solutions to the things you see as problems.

I personally feel Calistoga may be a better option for a sleepy little hamlet for Mr.Rowley and his aging mother and grandchild. There he will be surrounded by wine grapes and drunks. Not marihuana plants and stoners. There is a place for everyone he justs needs to find it. I feel Mr. Rowley is a minority in his opinion and feelings regarding our thriving successful mountain community. I also sense a little jealousy of the growing community in Mr. Rowley statements. His " successful " businesses if measured by money made wouldn't actually be that successful in comparison to what's actually going on around here.

Re: “Yes, Another Pot Story

I appreciate the time and trouble the NCJ has put into keeping me informed.
Your articles are always well written.
If the situation presents itself, please include mention of Mary Jane the Potumentary. Hopefully you have seen it. MJ lays out the history and future of pot here in Humboldt County. Disclosure...I'm a Co-Producer, still photographer and bit player in the film.
Thanks.

Thank you to all who helped save this little one. I began to cry when reading this. I just don't understand idiots like this who can be so cruel to a animal. But so thankful that she's going to be loved from this all. Thank you to the fisherman who helped and who is going to give her a home. Thank you

Re: “Culture Change

This is a most interesting and sad story. Everyone who has an interest in their community anywhere should read it. I wish legal marijuana was just as simple as keeping a couple plants in your yard or kitchen without sales and taxes and use of precious land.

Re: “Culture Change

I've known Mark for 40 of those 62 years and he was once known as the Mayor of Willow Creek. He and his family and others like his have poured there blood, sweat and tears into creating a village from a once ramshackle stop-over to a town of vision. What the article fails to mention is that Willow Creek built their community with little or no outside interference from the County. Not because it wasnt needed but because it was never offered. Now with cannabis in the picture, all land use decisions are with the County and this poor little gem of a town has little or no influence on outside decisions regarding their town. Sad. I would probably consider moving as well.

Re: “Bike Lock

bill burton is a greedy, snaky bastard! arcata had to shut down the bike library just to get rid of him. he took the $25k and bought land near burnt ranch for himself to grow weed on.. not to open another bike library there like he claimed to be doing. him and his crew would strip anything nice (shimano components etc) off of the donated bikes to keep for themselves. i know all of this for a fact because i was friends with one of his crew. thanks bill burton for ruining the bike library you greedy fucker!
