What is a Bird Observatory?

What:

Join Redwood Region Audubon Society on Friday, Nov. 12 for a free public lecture on “What is a bird observatory? Adventures in capturing and observing birds in the State of Jefferson.” The speaker will be Josée Rousseau, program director of the Humboldt Bay Bird Observatory, who will highlight the efforts of hundreds of people focused on monitoring birds here. She will cover the history of bird observatories, a practice that began in Europe, then came to California in 1967. She will show pictures of many rare and interesting birds of our bioregion and explain how bird monitoring can contribute substantially toward important conservation efforts. The talk will start at 7:30 p.m. at the Humboldt County Office of Education at Myrtle and West Avenues in Eureka. Bring a mug to enjoy shade-grown coffee.
