What:
The Second Annual Open Heart Show is finally here! During opening night of the 2008 debut, “the roof nearly lifted off the building” (according to Libby Maynard) from the power of the show’s work around the themes of love and forgiveness. Curator and Open Heart Show founder Megan Workman is confident that the second round in 2009 will beautifully continue the art-dialogue that was initiated last year. Gallery visitors will have the opportunity to experience the art of Inkers as well as other Humboldt community members. Mixed media work, film installation, painting of varied mediums, and rotatable drawings are all represented in the Open Heart Show including as contributing artists Kelley Barrett, Stephen Clark, Denise Dodd, Margaret Draper, Korinna Irwin, Jen Prather, Carol Pryor, Michel Sargeant, Erin Slattery, Francine Sobol, and more. Opening night will feature performance expressions during Arts Alive! Saturday, June 6. Josephine Johnson (www.myspace.com/josephineinthetrees) will perform original folk/lyrical/fusion music from 6:15 to 7:00PM. From 7:15 to 7:45PM, Michael Yousseff will perform original acoustic/electric music. Joel Blume (www.myspace.com/vavablume) will perform original folk/funk/punk music from 8:00 to 8:45PM. Korinna Irwin, Megan Workman, and guests will present spoken word pieces between musical acts. Throughout the night, performance and studio artwork will be offered by the MARZ project. A complimentary copy of the Open Heart #2 ‘zine will be available to all gallery visitors. Open Heart #2 was created by Korinna Irwin and Megan Workman. A limited amount of the Open Heart #1 ‘zines will also be available. The Open Heart Show is funded in part by KEET-TV and the Campaign for Love and Forgiveness. For more information, contact Megan at 864/353.4029 or Workman.Meg@gmail.com.
