What:
On April 17th, there will be an event in Eureka called The Heart of Health Fair. This fair will take place at the Eureka Women’s Club from 10am to 3 pm. Project director, Leah Grams-Johnson, will make a statement regarding the mission of the Heart of Health Fair at 1:00 pm. All media are invited to attend.
Individuals attending can gather here to learn about healthy living from local health and wellness-related businesses, have the opportunity to be screened for skin and breast cancer, and take simple blood tests. This is going to be a free, fun and informative event in which all ages are welcomed.
Organizer and founder of this event, Leah Grams-Johnson says, “The Heart of Health is a person’s lifestyle and the relationship it has to disease prevention.” Specific topics which will be addressed are nutrition, exercise, and smoking as well as other modifiable lifestyle factors.
Leah is a student at Eureka High School working through the Environmental and Spatial Technology department and, as a junior, has decided to begin her senior project one year early. After her mother passed away from brain cancer in 2009, Leah has become driven to help and educated others in the community about ways they can prevent diseases such as cancer. “No one saw my mom’s cancer coming. It wasn’t something she could have ever prevented or avoided, and yet she suffered so much. To think that some people could help lower their risk of getting such a disease through ways as simple as eating healthier and getting exercise, I can’t imagine why anyone wouldn’t.”
Please come to the Heart of Health Fair and learn how to take control of your health.
