Team In Training Informational Meeting
What:
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training (TNT), the world’s first and largest charity sports training program is recruiting for the Spring 2011 events to train local teams. They provide coaching and support for approximately 39,000 people across the nation each year to reach their personal goals of completing marathons, half marathons, triathlons, hike adventures and long-distance cycle rides. TNT will be offering full and half marathon training on their Spring 2011 Humboldt Team, with the goal of adding additional sports in the future.
The events the team will be training for are: The Avenue of the Giants Half Marathon, the Rock’n’Roll San Diego Full & Half Marathon and the Mayor’s Anchorage Full & Half Marathon. The team welcomes walkers and runners; beginners and experienced athletes. Join the TNT program and you will train with professional coaches, travel, and share good times with a fun group of dedicated people while you help to create a world without cancer. The funds raised by each participant will continue the research and patient support for the fight against leukemia and other blood cancers.
Last October, four Humboldt County TNT participants ran in the San Francisco Nike Women’s marathon. The local team raised over $13,000 to benefit The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The overall contribution of the 20,000 NIKE runners amassed over $15 million to the cause. Local runner, Suzi Hendry echoed sentiments of the team, “Participating in this event surpassed my expectations. Not only did I accomplish my personal goals in training and finishing the event, but running with so many others who are there as survivors and supporters of LLS was truly inspirational. This was my first experience in any type of run, and I could not have done this without the excellent training I received. The team camaraderie made a huge difference in training.”
Teams will be forming shortly in the greater Humboldt Bay area and TNT is hosting an Information Meeting for those interested in finding out how they can be a part of this successful program on Tuesday January 18, 2011 at Cal Courts, 517 W. Clark St., Eurekaand on Wednesday January 19, 2011 at HealthSPORT, 300 Community Way in Arcata. Both meetings will start at 6:00 p.m.
