You can get your annual “Taste of the Cove” at beautiful ocean-view Mal Coombs Park in Shelter Cove, on Saturday August 30. This Labor Day weekend community feast, benefiting Heart of the Redwoods Community Hospice, has become a beloved tradition with many. At this year’s “Taste of the Cove,” the music of NPK and friends will give righteous accompaniment to an albacore or tofu cutlet dinner barbequed by Hospice’s renowned Flaming Chefs. Music and food start at 1 p.m., and go all afternoon until 6 p.m.

The music of NPK is well-known to local listeners and to those who love to dance. Headed by singer-songwriter-guitarist Tanner Speas, the high energy young quintet also features Gregg Gratzel on drums and vocals, Tao Ryce, bass and vocals, Dave Murray on saxophone, and Galen Davis on percussion. The band writes and records the music they play, and is currently finishing their third all-original album as well as a music video.

“Taste of the Cove” features a barbecue dinner to match the matchless reputations of the Flaming Chefs. The dinner includes choice of albacore or tofu cutlets—hotdogs for the kids—with organic green salad, corn-on the-cob and garlic bread. A satisfied customer after last years Taste of the Cove wrote, "The salad was cold, the corn was hot, the bread was Brio, and the fish was to die for!” The Shelter Cove Pioneers will be on hand again this year with a selection of their fabulous homemade desserts.

Winning tickets for the Hospice Quilts and Pure Indulgence raffles will be drawn at this event. There’s still time to buy your raffle tickets at the Hospice office on Maple Lane in Garberville; or watch for the table in front of Jacob Garber square on Fridays with its display of three lovely quilt hangings.

Fun stuff will be available for the kids. Neighborly visiting and outdoor relaxation complete the party. Don’t miss the fun and feasting this Labor Day Weekend: Saturday, August 30. $25 donation at the gate; children $12. No dogs please. For advance tickets or more information, call the Hospice office at 923-7276.
