Democracy Across Prison Walls
What:
Prison industrial complex abolitionist and social justice entrepreneur Cynthia Chandler will be at the HSU campus (BSS 162) March 4 to speak about the experiences of people housed in women’s prisons. She’ll provide insight and perspective on several volatile issues in the U.S. — the right to gender expression and interrogating stratified gender roles, women’s health and the impact of HIV, and gendered and racialized violence. Chandler is the co-founder/executive director of human rights organization Justice Now, which is dedicated to partnering with people in women’s prisons and local communities to build a safe, compassionate world without prisons.
