Local radio station KHUM, 104.3 FM and 104.7 FM wraps up its annual three week long public information campaign, "Stop The Violence, Start The Healing," with its Healing Breakfast at the Wharfinger Building in Eureka.  This breakfast happens on Friday, November 21st from 8-10 a.m. and is free to the public.  Representatives from Humboldt Domestic Violence Services, North Coast Rape Crisis Team, C.A.S.A., W.I.S.H., The Emma Center, Two Feathers Native American Family Services and Public Health are on hand to answer questions and give out information.  The breakfast is broadcast live over KHUM.

The topic for this third week of the campaign is Recognizing Abuse and Tools for Hope and Change.  There are speakers from these various agencies as well as a panel of guests speaking on this topic.  Additionally, many Humboldt County public officials have been invited to speak. Members of the audience  have opportunity to ask questions of the panel and guests and share their experiences.

There are fresh pastries donated by Vellutini Baking Company and coffee from Signature Coffee.  Between the guests and panel discussions there is live music.  Toward the end of the breakfast, KHUM awards a check in the amount of $1,000.00 to a local organization working on the front lines, to be announced at the breakfast.  The monies come from the Stop the Violence Fund that KHUM started back in 1996.  The fund is managed by the Humboldt Area Foundation and each year the STV Fund Committee chooses a worthy organization for their work is curbing violence in Humboldt County.

Cliff Berkowitz, KHUM founder and morning show host, created the Stop the Violence Campaign as a national event in 1990.  He brought the campaign to Humboldt County in 1996 and co-hosts the campaign with Sheri Johnson, Director of Field Education in the Department of Social Work at HSU.

The entire healing breakfast is broadcast live over the air of KHUM and webcast at khum.com.  Over the 3 week campaign, KHUM has interviewed experts and aired panels on "Recognizing and Preventing Child Sexual Assault, "Abuse by Authority," and the final week, "Recognizing Abuse and Tools for Hope and Change." All interviews and panels from this 3 week campaign are archived and can be downloaded for free at khum.com
