What:
For the first time ever, the State Independent Living Council (SILC) is having its quarterly meeting in Humboldt County on September 14-15, 2010. For two days the Red Lion hotel on 1929 4th Street, in Eureka will host the Governor appointees. The purpose of the quarterly meeting is for the Advisory Council to the Governor to gather stakeholders and discuss the issues that are facing people with disabilities.
The SILC mission is to maximize options for independence for persons with disabilities through the allocation of Federal Independent Living funds and by gathering public input on the unmet needs of citizens with disabilities throughout the state. This meeting is important in that it aids the SILC in accomplishing its mission. There will be an additional focus on the independent living needs of Native Americans with disabilities.
The SILC invites anyone with a disability, or any person with a friend or family member who has a disability, to attend the meeting. There will be various times throughout the two day meeting for public comments. Government officials from the local, state, and federal level have been invited to attend, in hopes for an open dialogue on the issues facing people with disabilities in California.
