Regional workshops focus on profitable farming niches
Innovative farming strategies and niche specialty crops will be the topic of a series of workshops held Dec. 15 and 16 along the northern coast.
In Eureka, the first of the Profitable Niche Farming workshops will be 12-5 p.m., Dec. 15 at the Humboldt County Agriculture Center, 5630 S. Broadway, Eureka, CA.
A similar workshop will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Dec. 16 at Hampton Inn Ukiah, 1160 Airport Park Blvd. in Ukiah, CA.
This regional workshop will focus on specialty crops and strategies that local, small-scale farmers can use to select new enterprises and increase their likelihood for success. Presentation topics will include orchard planning and management, strategies for extending seasons, small-scale mushroom production, and blueberry production.
“This is a chance for north coast growers to explore ideas that can help boost a farm’s bottom line, with small-scale farming experts gathered from throughout the University of California system,” said Shermain Hardesty, director of the UC Small Farm Program.
The Profitable Niche Farming workshops are sponsored by the UC Small Farm Program and local UC Cooperative Extension offices.
