What:
Local purveyors of the Humboldt electronic music scene Deep Groove Society are teaming up with the massive Akaboom sound system to introduce to the North coast the South Rakkas Crew.
South Rakkas Crew Bio: South Rakkas Crew was founded by Alex Greggs and Dennis “Dow Jones” Shaw out of Orlando, FL with roots in the UK. SRC offers a fusion between the thriving Florida dance scene and the rugged dancehall riddims of Kingston, Jamaica. SRC first gained international attention with their searing riddims ( “Clappas,” “Red Alert,” “Bionic Ras”) which served up production material for the likes of Capelton, Sizzla, Bounty Killer, and Tanya Stephens, to name only a few. Along with their credibility in the raggae world with Jamaincan and non-Jamaican audiences alike, SRC has achieved critical acclaim in the underground dance world as well. When the beat king Diplo put out the Rakkas’ “Mad Again” and “The Mix Up” on his Mad Decent label the blogosphere erupted with unanimous praise with Prefix raving about the Rakkas’ “production perfection.” SRC’s most recent release, the 16 track The Stimulus Package, features cameos from such dancehall heavy-hitters as Capleton, Serocee, and Mr. Agony and achieved critical acclaim yet again with the notable blog True Genius Reguires Insanity stating “…the SRC doesn’t just throw down the gauntlet in dancehall, they kick open the doors to dubstep and electro.” SRC was also recently personally selected by M.I.A to open her N.E.E.T. label showcase. With the South Rakkas Crew’s credibility within two music scenes thriving in Humboldt, this will be a show not to be missed.
