Sierra Club Hike: Cathedral Trees, Rhododendron, Cal Barrel, Foothill Trail Loop
What:
This medium difficulty, 5-mile hike ascends from prairie and creekside into old redwood forest featuring fantastic goose pens and cathedral groves amid rich understory, including blooming native rhododendron. Return down old road through huge redwoods. Mostly shaded. Bring liquids, lunch/snack, camera, wear layers and good footwear. Carpools from south meet at Arcata Safeway parking lot (7 and F Sts) at 9:30 a.m. Everyone meets at the Prairie Creek State Park Visitor Center at 10:15 a.m. For further information, contact leader Melinda at 707-668-4275 or email mgroomster@gmail.com.
