Sara Milonovich (fiddler/singer)
What:
Sara Milonovich is a rarity in the music world: at once a successful singer, fiddler, composer, and bandleader, while at the same time a sought-after accompanist for a number of other artists in many musical genres. She has performed throughout the US and Europe in the Americana roots, folk-rock, bluegrass, Celtic, and Appalachian music scenes, both as a solo artist and in collaboration with such artists as Richard Shindell, The McKrells, Pete Seeger, Cathie Ryan, Eliza Gilkyson, Quickstep, Anne Hills, and Antje Duvekot, among others. Her latest CD, Daisycutter, released in 2009, was a nominated Grammy semifinalist. It features her own compositions along with fresh readings of songs by a variety of contemporary writers. The album is also notable for the many friends from her various musical lives who joined in: newgrass mandolin stalwart Mike Marshall, Nashville bassist Viktor Krauss, renowned Austin musician and producer Lloyd Maines, Irish guitarist John Doyle, jazz reedman Matt Darriau of The Klezmatics, and Springsteen banjoist Gregory Liszt, among others. Usually touring with her 6-piece band (also called Daisycutter), she will be performing tonight’s show in a duo with multi-instrumentalist Greg Anderson (Eileen Ivers, The Klezmatics, Doctor Nerve.)
