R.E.A.D. Fosters a Love of Reading by Offering Children An Opportunity to Read to Dogs at the Eureka Library

In partnership with Delta Society Pet Partners and KEET-TV, R.E.A.D. features animal-assisted activities targeted to improving your child’s reading and communication skills.  The goal of R.E.A.D. is to build self-confidence, educate your child about gentle animal interactions and encourage library usage.

This program is free, and all children old enough to read are welcome.  Children should sign up in advance for a 15-minute R.E.A.D. session with one of several dogs and a Pet Partner volunteer.  To reserve a spot, stop by the children’s room at the main Library.  Sign-up sheets and permission slips, as well as a great selection of books about dogs, are available.  Space is limited, so sign up early.

The Library’s programs and services are accessible to the disabled.  Please let us know if you require assistance.  The Humboldt County Library is located at 1313 3rd Street in Eureka.  For further information, please call Pat or Kitty at 269-1910, or visit our website at www.humlib.org.
