Quacks for KEET: The Great Humboldt Bay Duck Race

What:

For the 13th consecutive year, thousands of little yellow rubber ducks will race on Humboldt Bay in support of KEET-TV, public television for the North Coast.  QUACKS FOR KEET: The Great Humboldt Bay Duck Race of 2011, presented by Blue Lake Casino, will be held at 1:30 p.m. (depending on the tide) on Sunday, August 21st, in conjunction with Woofstock at Halvorsen Park. QUACKS FOR KEET offers a fun activity for families, a chance to win great prizes and an opportunity to support KEET’s early childhood education outreach program, Ready To Learn.

Rubber ducks can be adopted at Coast Central Credit Union branches, Bubbles Bath Shops, prior to the race.  Ducks can also be adopted by calling KEET at (707) 445-0813.  The suggested donation is $5 per duck, six ducks for $25, or 12 ducks for $50. (Must be 18 years of age or older to participate.)

The first duck to make it across Humboldt Bay brings in a $1,000 cash prize.  There are many other prizes for fast-floating duck including: a $500 savings bond from Coast Central Credit Union; $300 cash, a $250 gift certificate from Pierson Building Center, a Ducky Gift Basket from Bubbles Bath Shop, visits to Bounc-A-Palooza, and a picnic basket from the Original Basket Boutique.

“I can’t think of a more light-hearted and fun way to support local public television and our early childhood literacy outreach program, Ready To Learn,” said Ronald L. Schoenherr, KEET Executive Director.  “KEET’s Ready To Learn Service relies significantly on funds raised from special events to provide free educational opportunities for families with young children such as our Share A Story events at library branches and the Young Authors and Illustrators Contest.”

QUACKS FOR KEET is sponsored by the Blue Lake Casino and Hotel, The Times-Standard, Power 96, Big Red, Cool 105 and KGOE-AM.

For more information on QUACKS FOR KEET, call 707-445-0813 or go to www.keet.org.
