Two World-Renown Guitarists Play Mateel This Friday, November 20th

This Friday, November 20th, two of the world’s most accomplished acoustic guitarists, Peppino D’Agostino and Alex DeGrassi, will grace the stage of the Mateel Community Center in Redway for a special double bill.

Presenting A Night In Italy, Peppino D’Agostino is a Renaissance man in every sense of the word.  Italian by birth and a longtime California resident, his art — virtuoso acoustic guitarist, composer, singer, teacher and all-around entertainer — is rooted in his heritage.  With a long and distinguished career, his most recent accolade came from Guitar Player magazine when he was voted Best Acoustic Guitarist in their Reader’s Choice Awards for 2007.  His latest CD, Made in Italy, continued his 2007 hot streak and is not only a fitting tribute to his native country, but is also the first of his many recordings to strongly feature his adept vocal work alongside his Mediterranean flavored guitar stylings.

Equally renown in the pantheon of finger-style guitarists, Alex De Grassi was born in Japan, grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, and now resides in Mendocino County.  Although he started out on trumpet, he discovered the guitar at age 13 and has never looked back.  Self taught for the most part, he first came to prominence in 1978 with the release of Turning: Turning Back, his debut release on Windham Hill Records.  He has since gone on to garner Grammy and Indie Award nominations and establish himself as one of the great names in acoustic guitar.

Doors open at 7pm with Alex De Grassi at 8:00pm and Peppino D’Agostino closing.  A gourmet Italian dinner will be available to benefit Barefoot Burlesque, a new local performance troupe.  Beer and wine will support the Mateel.  Advance tickets are on sale now at the usual local outlets and online at www.inticketing.com for $25.  Admission at the door will be $27.  Current Mateel members receive a discount and may purchase tickets for $22 advance (at the MCC office) and $25 at the door.  For more information contact the Mateel Community Center at 923-3368 and don’t miss this evening of world-class acoustic guitar with Peppino D’Agostino and Alex De Grassi on Friday, November 20th.
