Peace in the Middle East Festival

What:

The HSU Arabic Peace and Culture Club and the Jewish Student Union will host a conference on Sunday, March 28 at 10 a.m. The conference will take over the Kinesiology and Athletics building, featuring speakers and workshops, ethnic food, dance performances and live music. The conference is free for students and the public.
The two clubs united last fall, with the idea of tackling the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The goal of the conference is to highlight similarities between the cultures, and prospects for Middle Eastern peace. The two clubs brainstormed possible experts on the subject and, despite limited funds, attracted Kathy Lee of the HSU Political Science Department, HSU Religious Studies professor William Herbrechtsmier, former Middle East peace advocate Shullie Steinfeld, and Naomi Katz, a teacher of the fine arts in Los Angeles. The Ya Habibi dance group will perform and teach a workshop on Middle Eastern dancing techniques. Free and fresh Arabic and traditional Jewish food will be offered. The conference is sponsored in part by Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom and Associated Students. For more information or disability related accommodations, please contact Arabic Peace and Culture Club President Katrina Nystrom at (707) 695-8434 or apacclub@gmail.com.
