Pangæa Earthquake Symphony
What:
Californians are used to having the earth “”move,” and there is always excitement associated with it. On October 22 and 23 the first Eureka Symphony concert of the 2010-2011 season promises that the audience will experience some of the excitement associated with a seismic event! Carol Jacobson and the Eureka Symphony will move the audiencewith the World Premier performance of Pangaea “Earthquake Symphony” composed by Halim Beere, formerly Concertmaster of the symphony. Halim Beere received his Bachelor’s in music composition and violin performance from Humboldt State University, where he studied with Brian Post and Cindy Moyer. Mr. Beere served as Concertmaster of the Eureka Symphony 2007-08. He currently resides in Illinois where he has recently completed his Master’s in music composition, and is currently a doctoral student at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. In Illinois he has studied acoustic composition with Mei-Fang Lin, Zack Browning, and Eric Lund, and is studying composition with Stephen Taylor, electro-acoustic music with Scott Wyatt, and algorithmic composition with Heinrich Taube. Also on the program is Pianist Daniela Mineva who will play Shostakovich’s Concerto #2, Daniela has an vast, impressive list of honors and degrees, has performed and taught all over the world, and currently teaches at HSU. The evening’s moving program concludes with Carol Jacobson and the Eureka Symphony playing Shostakovich’s Festive Overture. Born in Bulgaria, Daniela Mineva began piano lessons at the age of five. She graduated from Sofia Music Academy with the Bachelor of Music degree in PIano Performance and Choral Conducting. She also has degrees from The University of North Texas, Northwestern University, and a Doctorate from Eastman School of Music. She has an impressive list of other honors. All Eureka Symphony concerts at the Arkley Center are reserved seating, and tickets may be ordered by calling 707-442-1956. Adults: $16, and Students: $9.
