Ocean Night Film Screening

What:

Join Humboldt Baykeeper, Ocean Conservancy and Humboldt Surfrider on Thursday, Feb. 9 at 6:30 p.m. for sea-themed films during Ocean Night at the Arcata Theatre Lounge. First, experience Ancient Sea Turtles Stranded in the Modern World, a look at the sea turtle’s migration over thousands of miles and lasting decades before finally returning as a giant adult to the very beach where it’s life began, completing a cycle that has endured for 100 million years. The movie examines the many threats to ancient sea turtles: poaching, entanglement in fishing gear, destruction of nesting sites and pollution of the oceans. Next up, Lost in the Ether, Andrew Kidman’s latest film focusing on particular surfboard designs, the shapers who create them and the process they undertake. Kidman says Lost In The Ether is a film for the “surfing purist,” made for surfers with a keen sense of surfing history. Ocean Night is an all-ages event. A donation of $3 is requested at the door. Films start at 7 p.m. A raffle takes place after the second movie.
