Mateel 30th Birthday Bash With The Coup

What:

This Saturday, December 19th, the Mateel Community Center in Redway invites everyone out to the Mateel 30th Birthday Bash.  Celebrating 30 years of arts and social service programming, this special event will feature music by funky hip hop favorites, The Coup, an explosive live ensemble fronted by lyricist, Boots Riley, and DJ, Pam The Funkstress.

Based in Oakland, The Coup formed in 1992 and has four critically-acclaimed albums to their credit. Politically radical and Marxist in their lyrical content, the music is characterized by electronic sounds, bass-driven backbeats, and rocked-out funk, overlaid by Boots Riley’s humorous, cynical, and sometimes violent criticisms of capitalism, American politics, pimping as a form of patriarchal exploitation, police brutality and beyond.

Doors open with DJ Funksidious Rex at 7pm and opening act at 8:00 with music until 1am.  Tickets are on sale now at the usual local outlets and online at www.inticketing.com for a price of $25 advance.  Admission at the door will be $27.  MCC members receive a $2 discount.  Snack foods, desserts, beer, wine, and refreshments will be available for purchase and a complimentary slice of birthday cake will be included in the price of admission.  For more information call 923-3368 or visit www.mateel.org and come join the revelry as we celebrate 30 years of the Mateel Community Center.
