NORTH COAST REPERTORY THEATRE PRESENTS THE COMEDY
“THE LOVE LIST”
The North Coast Repertory Theatre continues its 25th Anniversary Season with the comedy entitled The Love List by Norm Foster. The production opens on Thursday, July 23 at 8:00 PM with a benefit performance for the cast and crew.
In this side-splitting and thought-provoking new comedy, Leon and Bill concoct a list of attributes of the ideal woman—the top ten best qualities in a mate. When this allegedly “Ideal Woman” actually arrives on the scene the men quickly learn that their list could use a few revisions. Be careful what you wish for--especially in choosing a mate. This old adage leads to hilarious results in this sparkling comic hit, described by the Contra Costa Times as “Sharp, snappy and irresistibly funny.”
Playwright Norm Foster was raised in Toronto where he studied Radio & Television Arts at Centennial College. He spent twenty-five years in radio before he began writing plays. Known as Canada’s most-produced dramatist, Foster has written nearly forty plays and five musicals. When asked to try and pin down a common theme that runs through his plays, Foster says he's not sure. "I think for the most part, they're about ordinary people just trying to get by in life. I never set out with a monumental purpose in mind. I'm not trying to teach an audience a lesson or pass along some profound message, because I don't think I'm qualified. What I am trying to do is make them feel a little better about this world, and that's not easy these days."
The NCRT production is directed by Carol Escobar who has been active in theatre for over twenty-five years as director, actor and backstage crew member. She has worked at most local theatres and was most recently seen performing in Humboldt Light Opera Company’s productions of Little Women and The Wizard of Oz. Escobar describes The Love List as “a modern day comedy with witty dialogue, snappy timing and too many laughs to fit on to any list. People need to laugh. This is a play to get you laughing.”
The cast consists of veteran actors Edward Olson as Bill, Victor Howard as Leon and Kimberly Haile as Justine. Lighting design is by Calder Johnson, scenic design by Edward Olson and costume design by Genneveve Hood. Wanda Stapp will stage manage the production.
The Love List opens at 8:00 PM on Thursday, July 23 with an opening night gala that includes a champagne reception after the show. This performance will also serve as a benefit for the cast and crew. All seats for opening night are $13.00. The performance on Friday, July 24 will be a benefit for the Redwood Community Action Agency Youth Service Bureau; tickets are $20.
