Local Author Festival

What:

Local Author Festival at Eureka Books

On Saturday, December 12 at 1 p.m., Eureka Books will host more than a dozen local authors for a holiday booksigning. The Local Author Festival, now in its second year at the store, begins with a story hour for children followed by book signings throughout the afternoon.

“A story hour around the holidays gives parents and kids an opportunity to slow down enjoy the season,” said Eureka Books owner Scott Brown.  “And our very talented children’s book authors have new books out just in time for the holidays.” Mary Nethery will read from her newest book, Nubs: The True Story of a Mutt, a Marine, & a Miracle, which has been featured on Good Morning America and recently climbed to no. 2 on the New York Times bestseller list. “This is a truly heartwarming story of an American marine in Iraq and the dog who befriended him,” Brown said.  “It’s impossible not to love this book.”  Joining her will be Marie Raphael, Pamela Service, and Natasha Wing, whose new book, An Eye for Color, about the painter Josef Albers, is recommended by the New York Public Library as one of its “100 Titles for Reading and Sharing.”

Following the story hour, the children’s authors will sign books. At 3 p.m., many more local authors will be in to sign their books, including the historian Ray Raphael, the garden writer Amy Stewart, acclaimed historical novelist Cecelia Holland, Harlequin romance writer Terry McLaughlin, and Arcatans Matt and Linda Morehouse, the authors of Cast Iron Cuisine.

“I am constantly amazed at the number of talented writers in Humboldt County,” Brown said, “We’re honored to have so many of them coming to the store to sign books.”

Starting on Dec. 11 and continuing through Christmas, Eureka Books will be open until 9 pm to make holiday shopping easier. Eureka Books is located at 426 Second St. in Old Town across from the gazebo. For more information, visit www.eurekabooksellers.com.
