Sustainable Futures Series

What:

Former US Geological Survey researchers Jane Nielsen and Howard Wilshire will continue the Sustainable Futures Speaker series April 29 with their presentation “The American West at Risk: Science, Myths, and Politics of Land Abuse and Recovery.” The lecture will start at 5:30 pm in BSS 166 on the HSU campus. At the USGS, Nielsen specialized in Mojave Desert geology and studies on the generation and transport of fluids in the deep Earth. She is co-founder of the Sebastopol Water Information Group; serves on the board of directors for the Open-Space, Water, and Land Conservation Foundation; and helps direct the Sonoma County Water Coalition. Wilshire’s USGS career included geologic mapping, Apollo astronaut training and lunar research, and broad-ranging studies on geologic processes at the land surface.
