KEET Holiday Auction

What:

Eureka - KEET-TV, the North Coast’s public television station, announces its live Holiday Auction fundraiser will begin Monday, November 8.  The televised auction is one of the station’s largest fundraising events and is an important way for viewers to support the continued broadcast of educational and culturally enriching public television while doing their holiday shopping at the same time. When viewers purchase items and gift certificates during the auction, 100% of their purchase goes to support the commercial-free broadcast of programs such as Sesame Street, Antiques Roadshow, FRONTLINE, NOVA and local productions such as League of Women Voters Candidate Forums, HomeWork Hotline. REDWOOD NATIONAL PARK: Preserving Ancient Forests, North Coast Cuisine, Lost Coast Sessions, LIFE AFTER METH and ORIGINAL PATRIOTS: Northern California Indian Veterans of WWII.

The KEET Holiday Auction will be broadcast live November 8 - 10 and November 15 - 18 from 6:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Viewers can tune in to bid on a wide variety of merchandise and gift certificates from hundreds of businesses.   Some gift items up for bid include: gift certificates to restaurants such as Moonstone Grill, Plaza Grill, Abruzzi and The Alibi: athletic opportunities from HealthSport, Praxis and Beau Pre Golf Course; an acoustic guitar from Fortuna Music Mart; lodging at The Benbow Inn, Hotel Arcata, The Meyers Inn, The Blue Lake Casino and Hotel and The Tides Inn in Shelter Cove; fine jewelry from Baroni Design, Holly Yashi and Graystone Jewelers; and an original Marc Jacobs Handbag from HollyGoLightly.  There are also practical items such as 100 gallons of propane from Amerigas, Wood flooring from Eureka Carpet and 10 yards of gravel from Eureka Sand and Gravel.

Thousands of businesses have generously supported KEET for more than 40 years through their involvement in the auction. The fundraising event has been an opportunity for these businesses to promote their merchandise and services on air to KEET’s audience while also supporting public television here on the North Coast.  The 2010 Gifts From the Heart Holiday Auction marks a successful year for donations, which came in at more than $65,000 in merchandise and gift certificates donated by our North Coast businesses.

The auction is staffed by numerous community volunteers including members of the Humboldt Roller Derby, The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, The Kinetic Queens, as well as staff from Coast Credit Union, Winzler and Kelly, Blue Lake Casino, All Hits 95.5, Redwood Memorial Hospital and Mad River Home Health.

A night-by-night lineup of auction items is available at www.keet.org.
