“CR Singers will present a concert featuring John Rutter’s “Magnificat” along with a semi-concert version of “Amahl and the Night Visitors” by Gian Carlo Menotti on Sunday, December 6 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Fortuna. The concert will begin at 7 p.m..

The “Magnificat”, written in 1990, is based on the canticle of the Blessed Virgin Mary with additional material from 15th century poem “Of a Rose, a lovely Rose”. It is full of energetic rhythms and strong melodies. Rutter is widely recognized as the leading choral composer of his generation.

Also included on the program is a semi-staged version of Menotti’s inspirational Christmas opera, “Amahl and the Night Visitors” with Tandy and Benson Floyd as the mother and son. The story revolves around a visit of the Three Wise Men, played by James Gadd, Kevin Richards and Bill Ryder, as they seek shelter in a impoverished widow’s hut on their way to Bethlehem.

The concert will be conducted by Carol Ryder and accompanied by Sharon Welton. It is free to the public.”
