Grammy nominee, Caroline Aiken, honored this year in the Georgia Music Hall of Fame, is now touring to promote her eighth and newest recording, “Welcome Home.” After years of constant performing internationally, beginning in 1969, Caroline Aiken moved back to her birth town of Atlanta, GA, in the early 80’s, (opening for acts Arlo Guthrie, Muddy Waters, Doc Watson, Randy Newman, Bonnie Raitt, Little Feat, 38 Special, Beach Boys, Janis Ian, Richie Havens…), where her bluesy voice, masterful finger picking guitar style and hypnotizing stage presence anchored the city’s acoustic and folk scene, influencing up and coming artists whom she took under her wing, including Indigo Girls and Shawn Mullins. She releases her music independently, tours incessantly, and teaches workshops: “ZEN and the ART of PERFORMANCE”, “Song Writing In Your Sleep” and “Guerilla Guitar Works”, lifting up her students to professional status. Aiken brought the Atlanta Dogwood Festival to its national standing during her tenure as Entertainment Director for twelve years (93-05).
Currently releasing her twelfth CD in 23 years, “Rise”, Joanne Rand has been dubbed “Psychedelic-Folk-Revival”, “Mothering Shaman” (-Bob Doran, Northcoast Journal), “an unforgettable force of nature”(Portland S.E.Examiner). Originally from Georgia, she has toured Nationally for 25 years appearing with artists such as Bonnie Raitt, Bob Weir, John Hartford, and John Trudell. Rand’s 11 indie CD was submitted for Grammy Nomination by San Francisco Recording Academy President and she recently earned a BFA in music composition. Writing and playing music since her childhood in the Deep South, Rand cut her performance teeth playing bluegrass in Alaska. She fully launched her career in the North Bay Area of California, where she remains revered as one of the region’s finest independent artists. A North Bay Bohemian readers’ poll voted her “Best Acoustic Band,” and recently called Rand a “legendary…longtime local hero.” Her work champions the human heart, the underdog, deep ecology and seeks to heal the human condition.
