On July 4th Persimmons Garden Gallery in Redway will be having an art show opening party for “Shells in Oil and Sumi” by Southern Humboldt artist Lauris Phillips. Come between 6:30 and 9:30pm to enjoy the Michael Curran Trio with special guest Yolanda Nickell, the Queen of the Sax. Snack on sushi and sake while browsing in the garden and gallery. Lauris Phillips will be showing recent oil paintings and works in sumi of shells. Sumi is the natural black ink used for centuries in Japan and China for calligraphy and painting. She has been focusing on spiraling seashells, both whole and broken, as a subject matter for several years. Lauris was born in California and received her art training at UC Santa Cruz and at the University of Washington in Seattle. She has been painting for over 30 years and has been practicing massage therapy for 22 years. Her paintings will be on display from July through August. A preview of the show is available on the gallery website at persimmonsgardengallery.com. Lauris and Persimmons Garden Gallery invite everyone to stop by the best party in town at 1055 Redway Drive (across from KMUD) before the Benbow fireworks!
